Sizewell & Knodishall 25th April 2009

We needed two good wins today in our push for runners up position in the league. Congratulations to the Hawks who secured the league with a resounding 5-0 win over Trimley.
We are still in the running for medals in both A & B leagues.

A Game

The line up was Ollie S in goal, Sam in defence, Freddie, Charlie B & Ollie M in midfield, Dash & Will up front, Matty & Connor S on the bench.

The game started off at a good pace and the boys looked up for it from the kick off. Sizewell may be bottom of the league but they are a big strong team and battled very well. We passed the ball well and played some good football but when Sizewell attacked they looked dangerous. Sam had his work cut out at the back, well supported by our midfield trio who again put in a great effort going from box to box for the whole game. we made several chances and were unlucky not to score. It was a very even first half. Thankfully we broke the deadlock just before half time when Freddie received the ball just inside our half, he was fouled on the halfway line but managed to stay on his feet and keep his run going. The ref noted the foul but played advantage. Freddie sailed past a couple of defenders and passed the ball across to Dash who finished it off with a superb strike. 1-0 the half time score.

We needed a good start to the second half as Sizewell were still very much in the game. From the kick off Dash went on a long run forward and got the ball to Matty who banged it in. 2-0.
A minute later Freddie sent in a corner, the ref spotted some pushing in the box and awarded us a penalty!! Apparently he had spoken to the player previously but I didn't see anything. Charlie B stepped up and gave the keeper no chance. 3-0.
The game started to open up as Sizewell's heads went down. We were passing and moving all over the pitch. Charlie was playing some lovely balls over the defense to the wings giving the strikers plenty to run onto. He played one of those passes to Dash who ran through and finished low into the corner to make it 4-0.
Sizewell were unable to get past Connor at the back. He won every high ball and had a superb game at the back. Ollie Mac and Freddie were both playing the wide role to great effect and put in some quality crosses into the box. We were unlucky not to get a couple more.
In the end we finished 4-0 winners. We now have to match or better Chantrys result against the Hawks to finish runners up.

Man of the match was Charlie Bance. When he's won it in the past it's been due to his battling and effort in the middle of the pitch. Today it was for the sheer quality of the passes and through balls he was supplying to the wide men at the front. We've worked hard in training all season to get the shape right and today it clicked to great effect. A special mention to Connor who was immense at the back and won everything that came his way, especially the headers which he dealt with brilliantly.

B Game

We are still in with a chance of finishing second but we need the Hawks to beat Chantry and for us to win our last two games and to improve our goal difference!! We are on the same goal difference as Chantry.
The boys were given the target of a)win the game & b)get as many goals as possible!

The line up was- Harley in goal, Kyle in defence, Curtis, Keiran and Cammy across midfield, Jack and Charlie W up front, Nat and Dan on the bench.

For many of the Sizewell b players this is their first season and it showed in the dominance we had on the game. Their keeper however played out of his skin and was the busiest player on the pitch. Curtis and Jack were on fire today and peppered the Sizewell box and goal with great crosses and shots. Their keeper made a string of great saves, we also had a number of chances narrowly miss the target. It seemed to take ages before we finally scored. It was actually just 7 minutes! Curtis played a great through ball for Jack to run onto and slotted it low past the keeper. 1-0
Straight from kick off Keiran won the ball in the middle of the pitch and played alovely pass through to Jack to score his second in a minute. 2-0
We continued to create chance after chance but struggled to get them either on target or away from their keeper. After 17 minutes Jack shot low towards the near post the keeper was well positioned but Nat had followed in and managed to turn it past him into the narrowest of gaps to make it 3-0. This was the half time score.

The second half continued along the same lines as the first. We made a number of chances and manged to scuff quite a few shots. The pitch was very poor as the ground was so hard it made the run of the ball very unpredictable.
Eight minutes into the half Nat got his second to make it 4-0.
Five minutes later Sizewell made a rare attack into our half. As the ball rolled forward Kyle, who had been solid all game ran forward to boot it clear, then for some reason decided to shield it back to Harley. Unfortunately Harley, like everyone else, was expecting him to blast it clear. He was taken completely by surprise as the striker continued his run past Kyle and poked it into the net. 4-1
We responded in the best way possible. We kicked off and immediately went into attack. After a brief goalmouth scramble the ball was laid back to Curtis outside the box, he fired it straight into the top corner. An absolute stunner. 5-1
A minute later Charlie W put a great cross into the box which Jack headed home. 6-1
We were bombarding their box now from every angle. Dan put some great crosses in grom the left and Charlie from the right was doing the same. With 18 minutes of the half gone Jack broke through for his fourth of the game. 7-1. A minute later he got his fifth to make it 8-1.
Two minutes later Curtis scored another stormer from outside the box. Turning his man and firing into the bottom corner this time 9-1.
With two minutes remaining Keiran who had battled tirelessly in the middle of the pitch banged in the 10th and final goal of the game. 10-1 the final score.
Another great team performance from the B's and a well deserved win. The scoreline could have been a lot more if their keeper had not played so well. We succeeded in our aim to get the point on the board and to improve our goal difference. Chantry won 5-1 so we now have 5 goals more than them. They however have three more points so we'll need to wait and see how they fair against the hawks!!
Men of the match was shared by Jack and Curtis who seemed to love every minute of their marauding display.
