Friendly v the Hawks Report

We had our first friendly of the season on Wednesday night against Felixstowe Hawks, where we met up with a few familiar faces. This is the first time we've tried out our new formation, playing with one holding defender, three workaholics in midfield and two strikers. The idea being we defend from the front and use the passing and movement tactics we've worked on in training. Unfortunately the length of the grass made a passing game a bit more tricky for both teams but overall the system worked well.

It was decided to play two full games and give the boys a proper work out. We didn't quite have a full squad so some of the lads were in for a busy night.

A Game

We had Ollie in goal, Connor S in defence, Jack Charlie B & Will in midfield and Matty & Freddie up front.
As both sets of players knew each other well and a lot of them were good mates off the pitch, we knew we were in for a full blooded encounter. Both teams worked extremely hard. Bragging rights were at stake. We spent most of the first half in their half of the pitch and were unlucky not to be a couple up at half time. The Hawks upped their game in the second half and looked dangerous in attack. Connor defended very well with great support from Jack and Will on the flanks. Charlie worked his socks off in the centre and almost demolished the crossbar with a shot from outside the box. Freddie managed some great runs up the right touchline and found his range with his crosses. Matty was unlucky not to score from a few of them and hit the post. Ollie had more to do in the second half and kept us in the game with a string of great saves. Dan replaced Will on the right and
